Key Mold Design Considerations for Junction Boxes


Proper junction box mold design must address these common challenges:

Wall Thickness Uniformity – Large flat areas tend to warp. We run mold flow analysis (Moldflow) to balance filling and minimize sink marks on thin-wall sections.

Sealing Groove & Flange Flatness – Critical for waterproof ratings. Cavity is finish-ground and polished (SPI A2/B1) to maintain gasket seating.

Knockout / Conduit Entry Demolding – Handled via hydraulic angled slides, lifters, or collapsible core sets depending on entry direction and quantity.

Boss & Rib Design – Ejector pins positioned to avoid marking visible surfaces; cooling channels placed close to thick bosses to prevent voids.

Material Shrinkage Compensation – Shrinkage rates differ between ABS (~0.5%), PC (~0.6%), PP (~1.5–2.0%), and GF-reinforced nylon (~0.3–0.5%); mold cavity sized accordingly.
