Understanding Two-Plate Injection Moulds

If the Mould separates into two main pieces along the Mould split line, it is referred to as a two-plate injection Mould.

Key Components:

Sprue: A tapered channel where molten plastic enters from the machine nozzle.

Runners: Channels that distribute plastic from the sprue to each cavity.

Gate: A narrow restriction between the runner and the cavity. Its small size allows the Moulded part to be easily broken away from the runner system.

Ejection System:

The Mould is designed to retain the Moulded part in the moving half (due to cost and convenience).

A sprue puller (with a re-entrant shape) helps dislodge the sprue from the sprue bushing.

The cold slug well catches the first, cooler shot of plastic from the nozzle tip.

The ejector system activates to clear the Mouldings and runners.

Temperature Control:

For thermoplastics, water circulates through cooling channels to control Mould temperature.

For thermosets, electrical resistance elements are used.
