What Is a Round Rattan Flower Pot Mould (Cylindrical Type)?


A Round Rattan Flower Pot Mould (Cylindrical) is a tool designed to create vertical-sided or slightly tapered round planters that mimic natural rattan or wicker weaving. The mold structure is significantly different from a spherical pot mold:

Vertical / Tapered Walls — The pot has a constant or gradually decreasing diameter, allowing the part to be stripped straight off the core without needing side-action slides.

Rattan / Wicker Texture — The outer cavity surface is EDM-machined with a cane pattern and acid-etched (VDI 30–42). Draft angles are carefully calculated (typically 2–3°) to allow the textured part to release.

Deep Core Cooling — The core is a deep cylinder requiring efficient heat extraction via annular cooling channels or bubbler tubes.

Internal Features — May include internal reinforcing ribs, drainage platforms, and molded-in hanging holes (formed by loose inserts or small lifters).

EDM Rattan Texture & Draft Optimization

Applying texture to a vertical wall requires sufficient draft. We calculate 2–3° total draft for the textured zone. The cavity undergoes EDM sinking to create the relief pattern, followed by chemical etching for consistency. The core remains smooth (SPI B1/B2) for easy release.

Deep-Cavity Vacuum Relief Design

Stripping a deep, textured cylinder off a core creates a vacuum. We design vent grooves (0.01–0.015mm deep) along the core surface and porous vent inserts at the core top to allow air to enter during ejection, preventing the pot from collapsing or sticking.

Annular Cooling Channels (O-Ring Grooves)

Instead of spiral BeCu, we machine concentric annular water channels (like O-rings) around the core at multiple heights. This provides uniform cooling around the circumference of the deep pot, minimizing ovality and warpage.

Hidden Submarine Gate on Inner Flange or Base

To preserve the rattan texture, the gate is placed on the inner rim of the pot opening or at the bottom center. For larger pots, a three-plate mold with a pin-point gate at the base ensures balanced filling.

Chain holes are formed by small loose inserts that are manually removed or ejected with the part. Internal reinforcing ribs are designed with proper thickness (60–70% of wall) to prevent sink marks on the textured outer surface.
