A Scalloped Large Size Flower Pot Mould is a complex tool designed to create large planters with a repeating decorative edge:
Scalloped / Petal Edge — The top rim is not flat; it has periodic convex (petals) and concave (valleys) curves. This creates negative draft that requires mechanical withdrawal.
Large Diameter — Typically 300mm–800mm. The large surface area demands exceptional cooling and warpage control.
Deep Draw — Often tall pots (300mm–600mm height), requiring deep core cooling and robust ejection.
Ornamental Finish — Usually features a light leather grain (VDI 27–30) or stone texture over the entire outer surface, including the scallops.
This is the heart of the mold. We design 8 to 16 individual angle lifters arranged in a circle, each forming one scallop. Alternatively, for tighter pitches, we use a collapsible core (segmented core with central cam). All lifters move simultaneously via a single actuation plate to ensure synchronized retraction without distorting the delicate rim.
The wide, flat top rim is prone to cupping or twisting. We design internal cooling channels (baffles or BeCu inserts) within 5mm of the surface and use Moldflow analysis to optimize packing pressure and cooling time, guaranteeing flatness ≤0.5mm on rims up to 800mm wide.
Every scallop must be identical. We use high-precision CNC machining and hand-fitting of the lifters to ensure the transition between each petal is seamless and the pitch (number of scallops) is consistent around the circumference.
The outward force exerted by 8+ lifters during injection is immense. We use thick support pillars, high-tensile guide pins, and heavy-duty lifter shoes to prevent mold deflection and flash.
Deep cores are cooled with BeCu bubbler tubes or spiral baffles. Deep venting (0.01–0.015mm) is placed at the apex of each scallop valley to prevent air traps in the complex geometry.
The scalloped surface often carries a stone or leather texture. We ensure the texture is applied uniformly across the lifter faces and the cavity, with proper draft (2.5–3.5°) to allow release from the textured undercut.

Q: Why does this mold need so many lifters?
A: Each "petal" or "scallop" creates an undercut. A standard mold cannot eject this. We need one lifter (or a segment of a collapsible core) for every scallop to pull the steel away from the plastic.
Q: Can you make multi-cavity molds for these?
A: For large diameters (over 300mm), multi-cavity is extremely rare due to the complexity of the lifter systems and the massive mold base required. We almost always recommend 1×1.
