6 Steps to Produce a High-Quality Plastic Arm Chair

Step 1: Raw Material Preparation

Step 2: Chair Mould Design (The Critical Phase)


Before cutting steel, our engineering team performs a rigorous DFM (Design for Manufacturability) analysis. The design process includes:

Structure Analysis: Analyzing the armrest geometry and overall chair ergonomics.

Runner System Design: Optimizing the gate location to ensure balanced filling and minimal weld lines.

Cooling System Design: Designing efficient cooling channels to manage cycle times.

Ejection System Design: Planning for smooth demolding, especially for the armrests.


Step 3: Injection Molding


The raw material is melted and injected into the mould cavity under high pressure.

Machine Tonnage: A standard PP outdoor armchair typically requires a 700-800 ton injection molding machine.

High-Pressure Needs: For transparent PC Chiavari Chairs or Acrylic Chairs, a higher tonnage (1000 ton+) is required to ensure the material fills the thin, intricate sections of the mould completely.


Step 4: Pressure Holding and Cooling


Once injected, the material is held under pressure to compensate for shrinkage.

Cooling Time: This is a critical factor for productivity. Depending on the chair's thickness and material (PP vs. PC), cooling times range from 30 to 120 seconds.

Risk Management: Insufficient cooling leads to warping, sink marks, and internal stress, ruining the chair's structural integrity.

Step 5: Mold Opening and Ejection


This is the most delicate part of the cycle. The mould opens, and the ejection system activates.

Complex Mechanisms: Due to the armrests, the chair cannot simply be pushed straight out. We utilize sliders (angled slides) to retract the side cores that form the armrests before the main ejector pins push the chair out.

Gravity Assist: Many production lines invert the mould. Once ejected, the chair falls away from the machine, allowing for fully automated production.

Step 6: Assembly and Packing

Most monoblock armchairs require no assembly. However, for models like Ergonomic Office Chairs or Executive Mesh Chairs, this stage involves assembling legs, arms, and gas lifts. Finally, the chairs are inspected and packed for shipment.
