Utilizing advanced 1-Mould-2-Cavities technology, our Moulds allow manufacturers to produce two different handle designs simultaneously within a single cycle. This approach significantly improves production efficiency and reduces manufacturing costs while maintaining the stringent appearance standards required by the appliance industry.
Technical Challenge: Why Handle Moulds Are Difficult
Refrigerator door handles are classified as long, thin-walled parts with complex geometries. The primary challenges include:
Surface Quality: No gate marks, weld marks, bubbles, or scratches are permitted.
Complex Geometry: Features include deep undercuts (up to 14.3mm), reinforcing ribs, display windows, and curved surfaces.
Dimensional Accuracy: The mating surfaces (S1 & S2) must be perfectly flat to connect seamlessly with the door shell.
Material Flow: With lengths exceeding 900mm (for freezer handles) and average wall thicknesses of 1.8mm, maintaining melt flow balance over a long distance is critical.
Zhongyue’s Engineering Solution
To overcome these challenges, we implemented a robust Mould design focusing on three core technologies: Gating, Cooling, and DeMoulding.
1. Sequential Valve Hot Runner System (Zero Weld Lines)
To prevent ugly weld lines on the visible surface of the handle, we employ a Timing Needle Valve Hot Runner System.
Technology: One-way sequential valve control (G1→G2→G3→G4→G5).
Structure: Combines a primary thermal nozzle, hot runner plate, and secondary thermal nozzles.
Benefit: By controlling the opening/closing time of each nozzle via solenoids and a controller, we manage the melt flow front. This effectively eliminates weld marks or moves them to non-critical, hidden surfaces.
Layout: 5 gates for the longer freezer handle and 4 gates for the shorter convertible handle, ensuring balanced filling.
Uneven cooling leads to warpage. We designed a sophisticated water cooling layout:
Fixed Mould Inserts: 8 groups of cooling channels (~15mm from cavity wall).
Moving Mould Inserts: 6 groups of circuits (circulating pipes + baffle water wells).
Sliders: Dedicated circulating water pipes for large sliders.
Result: Rapid and uniform cooling, balancing the Mould temperature between 80–90°C to prevent shrinkage and internal stress.
Mould Working Process
Injection: Plastic melt (ABS) enters through the sequential valve hot nozzles (G1–G5) in a timed sequence.
Opening & Core Pulling: The Mould opens, and angled guide pins drive sliders for lateral core pulling.
Ejection: The push plate activates round push rods and push blocks to eject the finished handles (Distance: 60mm).
Reset: All components return to their initial positions, ready for the next cycle.
